Welcome to the Monash Band Register! The Band Register is an initiative to make it easier for event organisers to find young local bands and musicians for events in their area. Who can register?
The band register is open to any young Melbourne musicians, with a particular focus on the Eastern and Southern areas. We are focused on these areas because of the geographic location of Monash City Council, but it is still available to bands outside this area.
Don't be deceived by the name. We are not just looking for bands; we are also looking for solo artists, acoustic artists, DJ's, MC's and any other aspiring musicians!
Who will use it?
The band register will allow event organisers an opportunity to find local bands/musicians for events. The register aims at providing young people with opportunities for event organisers to connect with local young bands/musicians. This could be utilised by other Local Government FReeZA groups or other local organisers.
Why have a band register?
The band register will allow local events organisers and FReeZA groups to locate musicians from the local area and also in particular styles of music for events.
It will also give bands an opportunity to network and find other bands to play events with.
Having a band register will also give us and other event organisers direct contact with bands if opportunities such as training or gig opportunities come up. However, bands can make the decision about whether they would like to receive the information.
What information do we require?
The basic information that we will be placing on the register will be the band name/artist name, MySpace/website, the genre of music you play and your location. We will collect other information to assist us to maintain the register, however this will be kept confidential and for office use only. We will also ask if we can e-mail you about upcoming opportunities, such as training and upcoming gigs, e.g. Battle of the Bands or Music Industry Night.
We need the band/artists name for obvious reasons! We need a MySpace/website so that event organisers can have an easy and non-intrusive way to contact you. It can also give event organisers a chance to hear some of your music and get a feel for what your band is like, so make sure you have some recordings up!
We need your genre because events organisers sometimes try to get bands that fit well together or are of a similar genre. While all bands have a unique sound, it can be good to try to list your genre as something common, such as metal, rock, hip-hop or acoustic, so that if an organiser is searching by genre they can find you easier. If you want to capture the unique feel of your band it might be good to list it at the end of your genre, e.g. Metal Progressive.
We will list your local municipality, even if you input your suburb (eg. Glen Waverley will become Monash). This is because a municipality gives a good general idea of where a band comes from. Also, FReeZA committees are generally located in a specific municipality, so this will give them an easy way to identify the bands from their local areas.
