By The Way Youth Blog

There will be two purposes to this blog. Firstly it is a part of the internship through the uni to hand in an essay, report or media output. Secondly it will be an insight into MYFS through the eyes of a youth within the organisation. It will be funny, informative and more importantly interesting. The aim is to shift from the stereotypical way we can communicate to an audience. It will be a weekly blog that gets put up on the website which lets everyone know what happening in a different way.
It won’t be an interactive blog but more informative, there will be 12 blogs approximately all together posted up weekly while I am on placement. The blog will consist of what I do on a weekly basis but giving it a twist, there will be interviews with staff, reviews on upcoming programs and telling the youth of the City of Monash what is happening around them.

The written content should be reviewed before its posted up on the website and each week make sure a lot of photos and videos are put up to keep our audience interested. In terms of maintenance all written content will be written by me and then sent to Brett J to put up on the set template for the website.

I will pre-plan the 12 blogs in conjunction with upcoming events and information we want the youth in the City of Monash to know about.

Blog 12 - Latitude

Skaters are you ready...On Friday the 25th of September the Latitude gang went over the Olympic Ice Skating Rink in Oakleigh. It was a great day! While the young people glided over the ice like pros, the staff was more concerned about falling down and getting wet pants! The young people showed off their skills and did some amazing tricks, while the staff clearly had some learning to do. The freezing temperature inside the rink was lessened with hot chocolates and potato cakes that fuelled multiple laps around the rink.

Blog 11 - Music Equipment

MYFS is a very dedicated organisation that aims to keep up to date with what’s happening and also give every opportunity possible to the youth of Monash. Currently Quiksound (which is a part of Freeza) has had enough funds to purchase some really cool equipment. This equipment helps with running new additional events such as gigs and as well as the upcoming Trivia night. (Stay tuned!!) The Quiksound committee will be in charge of the equipment which helps them experience setting up equipment, mix live and recorded music and give them additional event management skills when organising events.

Blog 9 - Batesford Hub

The Batesford Hub in Chadstone is swiftly getting built for it’s opening early next year, which is exciting. I have been told this hub will be a more accessible facility for the young people who live in the Ashburton, Ashwood and Chadstone area, which is quite handy for those of you who find public transport a drag (like me) or don’t have their licence. MYFS will have two brand new shiny offices in the hub that will be used for support and counselling. Another cool feature will be the new IT lab, which will feature 12 computers for the young people to use for either resume writing, help in school work or even just to play a bit of Warcraft (not sure if that game is still cool?)

Blog 10 - MYPRG

Did you know that there’s literally a youth government in the City of Monash? They name themselves the MONASH YOUNG PERSONS REFERENCE GROUP...these innovative thinkers work together to help better the community in the City of Monash for the youth in the area. They raise concerns to the council letting them know what needs improvement and what needs to continue happening so they keep young people of the City of Monash happy. At the moment they meet up the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm, they also have sub-groups which associate with the councils division in terms of environment, culture, communication etc.

Blog 8 - Circus Arts

So I was talking to the people who are involved in Activate and found out that coming up in October they are getting the people from NICA (National Institute of Circus Arts) to come in and have a circus skills day. Activate get guest speakers each term and this month the young people will get to learn a few tricks and skills from the circus which is pretty cool. I’ve been told that they will learn juggling, plate spinning, Diablo (no clue what that is), devil sticks and acrobatics. I’m so jealous they get to learn this cool stuff, so look out for pictures in Mid-October. Let’s hope not a lot of plates get broken and hope they get to explain to me what Diablo is...the only thing I know about Diablo is that it means devil in Spanish?!
