MYFS provide a various amount of parenting programs, today I will be interviewing Libby Roden the family support co-ordinator.
In these parenting programs, what do you see as the biggest message relayed over to the parents?
The main message we try to relay to the parents is that they aren’t alone in the matter. It’s giving them a chance to reduce the stress in their life and allow them to manage their children in any situation.
How long do some of these programs go for and do they have any costs?
All programs are free. Depending on which program is available will then depend on its duration but some do go for 6-8 weeks or less.
What type of parents would be suited to these programs?
Any parent that feels like their struggling with their parenting responsibilities as well as them wanting to enhance their communication with their children. Even parents that are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out in their current situation.
What are some helpful words for parents or guardians out there who need the help yet are resistant against asking for help?
All the programs provided by the service are non judgemental, supportive and educative. It is not only an environment
where you can share your grievances but also a caring environment which also can be light hearted, fun and caring.
What age group does each parenting program cater for?
Most of the parenting programs are catered for all age groups, its more calling up and asking which programs are more suited to you. The age can range from 2-12 or even 8-18.
Where can parents find out more information about these programs?
Information can be found at schools, MYFS website, other community agencies, Child cares and Kindergartens. You could also ring up MYFS on 9518 3900 to find out more.
On that note I will love you and leave you now.
